I watched Biden and Obama after Obama's acceptance speech and saw in my mind the assassin's bullet; only afterwards did I notice the presumably bullet proof glass enclosures surrounding the stage. I was gripped with a panicked feeling, an urge to protect not the person of Obama, but this thing that we'd done, this inspirational, historic president who fills me with the completely unfamiliar feeling of pride in my country and hope for the future.</p> <p>It'd be just our stupid American luck if some smallminded shithead racists ruined it all.</p> wow

Those are about the exact same emotions I had, and just about in that order.
